  1. Depo is notorious for causing pregnancy-like symptoms, especially when coming off it. It can take up to a year or more for periods to return and up to 2 years (and sometimes longer) for ovulation and normal fertility to return and for Depo to fully leave your system. This is the case whether you had one shot or 20!

I'm actually appalled you were on it so long and from before the age it should be given! Were you given regular bone density checks? If not, you may have set yourself up for osteoporosis.

My first missed injection was 3 years ago now (just a few days ago, actually) and I've lost the almost 40 pounds(plus a bit) I put on thanks to being on it, and I'm still not pregnant. I got my first period 6 months after the missed injection but don't think I started Oing until the next year. I had several 2 week cycles and thought a few times that I had miscarried. It's possible that I was pregnant this past cycle and MC'd...I hadn't gotten up the nerve to test when I started bleeding heavily and my AF's are never late...early sometimes, but not late. I was almost a week past AF's DD...

I'll be honest...don't expect much for the first year...it's likely to not happen for some time! I know that's not what you want to hear, but even if you loved depo while on it, it has probably wrecked your fertility....

ETA: Angela, there is NOTHING which can be prescribed that can counteract Depo..that's a good (but, unfortunately, useless) idea because there is no such drug. A few women may have luck at sorting out their menstruation by going onto BCPs, but most will only end up with breakthrough bleeding and still have no Ovulation. Time is the only real healer post-depo unfortunately...

  2. Ok this answer is going to be based off of a friend of mine that was also on the depo shot and quit to get pregnant. It took her almost 2 1/2 years after quiting to get pregnant and she was on it as long as you were. Talk to your ob/gyn doctor and see if there is something that they can prescribe that will alter the depo in your system! Good luck!

  3. Yes it's possible, but it's not probable.

Depo is a powerful birth control method.  It's going to take your body a while to get regular again.  You're also going to feel PMS and pregnancy symptoms while your body is adjusting.

How long will it take?  It can't be predicted.   You'll just have to go through it.  Some women get pregnant relatively quickly, but a lot of women take up to a year to get regular again, and for some women Depo can cause infertility for a number of years.

    Good luck.

  4. Oh my gosh!

I myself started taking it as my first birth control at 16 almost 17 year's old.

I stopped taking it when i was 21 or 22.After i stopped it i didn't get my period for 9 month's can you believe that.I got checked out (sonogram)and i seemed to be fine. They put me on the pill for a year to regulate my cycles. Now i have been off the pill for almost 10 mn's and my cycles are still irregular but i think i was like that even before i started the depo-shot.I have been trying to conceive with no luck.Since i stopped the shot when i didn't bleed for 9 mn's and now that i have been off the pill for almost 10 mn's.Im starting to think im never going to be able to have kid's and i blame the depo-shot alot of us a different but even though it's hard we have to keep faith..

I even think i had MC my first month on the shot but it was unknown.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey to become a mother!

    God Bless you♥
