How long does it take to get used to new reading glasses?

I've just got my first reading glasses. They are graded lenses, the top part for the computer screen and the bottom part for the keyboard. I'm finding it really wierd. Do they take a while to get used to? I feel like I'm better off without them!

  1. Progressive lenses warp the picture, are hard on the eyes and brain, and are kind of like purposely creating uniform astigmatism. It does take longer to get used to them than basic glasses. People also have to get used to the permanent tension around their eyes, and in their neck and shoulders.

  2. Most people who change from single vision lenses to graded lenses find that it takes a while to get used to them and since you are wearing glasses for the first time, it might take a bit longer in your case.

You should also check that your computer screen is at the correct distance.  Until recently I had no problem reading the screen with my distance glasses on, but then it started to become blurred and I was looking over the top of my glasses to read it.  So I went for an eye test to get another pair of glasses for computer work.  I was given a prescription suitable for reading the screen at arms' length, but when I got to work I found that the screen was much further away than this and the new glasses seemed worse than no glasses at all.  I've now had the screen moved closer and everything is fine

  3. ok i work in a vision center(source) and the doctor tells all the patients that ask this to give the glasses one to two weeks. if after that u feel that u havent gotten used to them, go back and tell ur doctor. they will be more than happy to assist u, and some places will even replace the glasses for free. good luck!

  4. the first time i wore them it took me about 3-4 hours to get use to them ,you will be glad you kept them on !
