How long does it take to get used to tuba?

today was like my first official day of band..

but the tuba is like heavy.

i figured my shoulder will get used to it..

but how long will it take.

  1. Wow.  If you're playing a Sousaphone (the big wrap-around instrument with the bell facing front) in marching band, it may take a couple of weeks to build up your shoulder muscles.  That's heavy.  Just put it down for a rest when you can.  


  2. Not long. I've been playing for years. Are you playing a sousaphone or a tuba? And is this concert band or marching band? I play tuba in marching band and it goes over my shoulder, but in concert band, it rests on my leg.

    Anyway, if you ever feel out of breath, just stop playing for a second. It used to happen to me a lot but you get used to it really quickly.

    It shouldn't take more than a few weeks for you to get comfortable with it.
