How long does it take to get your license after recieving your permit?

your permit allows you to drive until you pass your driving course.  then you go to the DMV and get your license.  there's no set amount of time, and having a permit does not guarantee that you will get a license.

after oyu get your permit, and, depending where you live, have to take 3 behind the wheels with an instructor.  and you have to wait six months before you can even take the test to get your license, if you past the test, you get your license right away (not the actual card, but a piece of paper that allows your to drive by yourself, the card comes in about 2 weeks)

Different states may have different rules. In New York, you must take a pre-licensing course or pass a driver's ed class.

In NY, you can schedule a road test anytime after you get your permit and have the appropriate paperwork for the pre-licensing course. Then you just takje the test and (hopefully) pass!
