How long does it take to get your passport if you go to the passport office?

It doenst explain on the application or website, when you pay an expedit fee is your passport still mailed or is it done the same day. i know it says going to the passport office is the best option for those planning on travelling within 14 days... but does anyone know the turn aroudn time on getting your actual passport?

  1. I went to the glasgow passport office last april when i was travelling within 14days and got it that day - its was a long wait but worth it

The best site for your information is the US State Department http://travel.state.gov/passport.  If it's your first passport, you'll have to go into a passport office anyway.  Renewals can be done on-line or submitted by mail.  Once the application is submitted it takes at least 3-4 weeks to receive your passport in the mail.  They can also expedite your application within 2 weeks with a door-to-door service. You can also check the status of your application at the same website.  There are some upcoming changes with Passport cards, it's supposed to be more efficient as far as avoiding fraud or theft.  There are some sites that offer 24hour passport service, but there are additional costs involved and there's no guarantee it's legit.  Hope this helps!
