it depends from were in tijuana and were to LA if its from San Diego to tijuana and back it would be like 5 hours

about 2 hours or so.. not bad.

The exact length of the trip depends on the specific Amtrak train that you choose, but figure a bit more than 2 1/2 hours.  For instance, the train that leaves Los Angeles station each day at 9:40am arrives in San Diego at 12:25pm.

You're probably aware that the train doesn't actually cross the border into Mexico.  I believe that most folks take the San Diego trolley to the border, and then walk across.  Make sure you have proper proof of US citizenship with you.
