I have a brittney spaniel puppy that is 11wks old. How long does it usually take for puppies to get housebroken. He seems to be getting better each day but when will he know to go to the door when he wants out? He knows when he goes outside that he is suppose to go potty but he doesn't go to the door, we see him sniffing and we make him sit in front of the door to hook him up to the leash and take him out. Any suggestions on what else to do to get him to realize the door means potty??? He even knows that when we pick up the leash it means to sit and wait for us to put the leash on. It's like we are missing a step he understands what happens when we pick of the leash, he knows he goes potty outside we are just missing the part where he goes to the door when he needs to go potty.

  1. Never, its a dog..

  2. I'd give him a few weeks. He'll learn to go to the door when he wants to go out soon enough...just use the same door so he learns "ok if i stand/sit here.... she'll leash me and take me out."

  3. Depends on you and your dog. It can take a copule days to a few weeks.
