I gave up diet soda 3 days ago and am having severe headaches. I am wondering how long this should last? I am not taking aspirin either but I will if it gets too bad. Please someone tell me its only a few more days, because 3 weeks of this or longer will not be good. I am drinking lots of water, and having some green tea in the morning. I never drank coffee so its not a big caffeine problem so much as a sugar and sweetener one. However, I'm sure the caffeine is not helping. I drank about 3 sodas a day.

  1. After a few days it will wain down.  However, it takes about 6 weeks to break a habit.

  2. You can never be addicted to soda but if you feel all of these side-effects then go to a doctor because you body might be so attached to all of the sugary drinks and when you suddenly just stopped your body just isn't used to it.If you are trying to drink less soda then try slowing down the prosses like only drinking half a day and finish it the next day

  3. Huhh.. never knew substitute sugars can link to headaches... could be a psychological thing? Other links to headaches could be dehydration so just drink more water.

  4. Just guessing but the headaches seem to indicate that you may have been drinking a soda that has caffeine in it.

I get the same if I go without my coffee.

It usually takes about a week to experience a lessening of these headaches with total cessation in about two weeks.

I find that a couple of acetaminophen tablets eliminate my headaches while I'm going through this withdrawal symptom.  Its easier on your system than aspirin in the recommended amounts.

Sugar is usually not the problem.  You get more sugars at one time by eating a big bowl of pasta.

  5. diet soda isnt really diet. and just drink water or juice there really isnt a way 2 kick soda

  6. Think about all the harm soda can do to you starting with your teeth, which can give you an incredibly amount of cavities because it's basically water and sugar. Another thing is, if you don't have soda in your house, there's no reason to crave it! The headache is def. ALL in your mind!! I know because soda is the most unhealthy drink for you so you THINK you need it but you really don't! trust me, i used to love it too and then gave it up after finding out that soda can really harm your body!!

  7. it took me about 6 months to completely end my soda habit; however, i did it gradually not all at one; drink two sodas daily the first week and one daily the next week and then every other day and so on... it will be much easier trust me....  ;to prevent yourself from starting the habit again allow yourself a soda every now and then; eventually you will forget about soda completely... drink milk and juices as a substitute, they work better than water...
