  1. it depends on 2 things 1 if your a fast learner then it could be a few months to learn a few songs and get the full hang of it 2 if you have a good teacher it should be pretty quick in a year you should know a few easy songs by heart

    hope this helped!

  2. Yea, it really depends on how fast a learner you are, if you have a good memory, and if you have a good teacher. And it also hurts the tips of your fingers when you first start to play, and it peels the skin, but that you get used to. So considering all that, 1-2 months if you're quick, and 4-? months if you're not determined and dedicated. You choose.

  3. Its not a question that can be easily answered! There are many variables. Such as: do you play any other instruments now? How much time do you have? What sort of guitar do you own?

You mentioned classical guitar. If you've not ever played guitar before, I would suggest starting out on a folk guitar rather than a classical. One of the reasons being is that you will over time, develop something sort of like semi-hard callouses on your fingertips from playing. This is not a bad thing; all guitarists have them. In fact, it is something you need to develop.  Playing a classical guitar, all six strings are made of nylon; very difficult to develop the callouses you need. Folk guitars have three nylon strings and three steel strings; much easier. Plus, the "action" (how difficult it is to push down on the strings properly, and play) of a classical guitar is different than a folk; usually the strings are set a bit lower, and just easier in general to control on folk guitars. Plus, with classical guitars you do not use a pick, you use your fingers! This style is very, very challenging (to say the least) for a beginner.

At any rate, I think the best way to start learning is to find a good teacher and start taking lessons. Group lessons are a good start, for absolute beginners. Maybe a four or six week course, or something like that.  Generally speaking, most beginner classes will teach you how to play by learning (simpler) songs - by playing!

Then after that initial introduction, find a good teacher for individual lessons - it is well, well worth the time and money. Try looking at local, non-corporate guitar shops. More independently-owned or mom and pop type places.

As far as how long it takes to learn... ? It sort of depends on you. You will make much better progress by playing a few minutes a day, even ten or fifteen minutes; as opposed to playing for hours at a time once or twice a week. In fact, I highly recommend that approach; try 10 or 15 minutes a day - but every day - if possible. Just pick up your guitar and play for a little while, then put it down and return to your day. Not only will it make you feel great, but you'll be surprised at the progress you make!

And last, but not least, patience is a must! You'll do fine, just take it in smaller, "easier to chew" bites at a time, and it will come. And remember; musicians perpetually learn, it is an on-going, life-long journey. I took my very first basic beginner classes about 1973 or 74, then took years of individual lessons; and there is always something new to learn, new challenges and adventures!

  4. its quite easy and it will take a month if u practice daily! but the thing is your interest, you know what i am a beginner too, it have been 4 months i bought a guitar and now i know how to read and play guitar tabs. but as for the chords you have to by heart them as for me i still have 9 chords to learn.

hope this will help you some how.

  5. it could take 1-2 years, or it could take 6 months it depends on how fast of a learner you are.

  6. well i play bass guitar, and it only took like three or four days to learn a song, and a couple of weeks to learn the notes
