How long does it take to lose an inch?

i have never really thought about asking this until i saw diet advert on-line, but if somebody was over weight say about 2 stone and stuck to a diet of 800calories a day on fruit, green veg and white meat and water how many calories would be burnt from doing 300 crunches a day? and if you did that everyday how many inches would you lose in a week/month off your stomach?

  1. It all depends on how much you have to lose and what diet you are on. As a guideline, I have found that for every 7 pounds I lose, I lose an inch. So, if you lose 7 pounds in a month, it will take you a month.

    On the diet you saw, if you have a reasonable amount of weight to lose, you could lose the inch in less than 2 weeks. (assuming a weight loss of half a pound a day). There are so many variables though. Everyone is different. I've recently lost 5 stone on a high protein only diet. I included diet drinks, cream in my hot drinks and sauces. For the sake of my sanity every third day I would have lots of fruit and veg and a small amount of any food I felt I had missed out on.

    On the strict diet day, I would lose a pound a day. On the eating fruit and veg day, I would lose half a pound or stay the same (assuming I hadn't overdone it with the wrong foods). I wasn't hungry, I lost weight quickly and I still got to have the foods I liked. However, you do need multivitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. I lost 2inches for every 14 pounds I went down. My sisters, my Mum and I have tried every diet under the sun over the years. We finally found one that works. We found that as soon as we had a mouthful of carbohydrate or sugar the cravings for them got stronger. If we didn't include them at all in our diet, the cravings went away. This did depend however, on not allowing ourselves to get hungry.

    2) If i eat less I'll lose weight!

    If you are eating only 800 calories a day you better weigh ~50 pounds...

    If you are losing more than 2 pounds a week for an extended period of time you better go see a doctor. You might have annorexia...

    The healthiest way to lose weight is by 1-2 pounds a week. For you to MAINTAIn your same weight you have to eat

    [your weight] x 15 = # of calories you should eat a day

    for you to lose 1 lb a week you should eat

    [your weight] x 15 - 500 calories

    In fact you can lose 1 inch off your waist in about 7-10 days if you want. I've tried this and it does work.

    All I ate was:

    2 slices of whole wheat bread with turkey, ham, roast beef, etc. you name it

    cheerios with milk

    oatmeal with a splash of milk

    peanut butter without jelly on whole wheat bread

    fruits

    steamed vegetables

    Each every 3 hours and you can pick anything you want on the list. you can eat 3 sandwiches with oatmeal and peanut butter sandwich if you want or whatever. Mix and match.

    As you can see its a low fat and close to sugarless diet. But it's not asking you to eat less. I'm telling you to eat as much as you want. If you ever have to feel hungry... you are doing something wrong.
