How long does it take to make a passport?

Well, my church is heading into Mexico for a mission trip and I wanted to go. But my passport expired a few months ago. How long does it take for a passport to be made? I live in California.

You could renew it and pay the extra fee to have it expidited.  Just so you know if you have less then 14 days till the trip you can make an appointment with the Passport agency that is near you.  I do not mean post office because they are not a passport agency.  The post office is just a place where you can apply for one.  If you have less than 14 days you can go to the agency and they can get you a passport within a day.  Also you MUST have 14 days or less because they will check to make sure you have 14 days or less.

average time for a passport to be made is about 3-4 weeks.  depending on when you are traveling, and you have to put that down on your application, you could get it sooner.
