  1. you can't really master the guitar since it takes a whole lifetime or more to master just a single instrument. Everytime you get better you actually realize that you need to learn a lot more things, and it is really up to you to decide when you're good enough.

But even though mastering the guitar is almost impossible you could set a goal for example you wanna be a jazz player, you could learn the stuff that you need in order to master jazz, or try to get good at it but you could never really master it.

Even great guitarists aren't necessarily masters because even if they're good in their respective genres they wouldn't be able to play the others. You couldn't expect Yngwie Malmsteen to play those R'nB music.

So you could set goals to help yourself improve you guitar skills but you wouldn't really be able to master it.

  2. LMFAO only one person in history has MASTERED the guitar and that was Jimi Hendrix (R.I.P)! and well he didn't exactly write a step by step book to being a Master of the guitar.

  3. I've played for 5 years and I'm still only decent, but I don't train or study different theories and patterns, so that's why.

If you set up a schedule and stuck to it, playing for a few hours every day and doing exercises, plus learning new songs constantly, you could pick up the hang of it in a few months, and get quite good after a year or so.

It's not something that you just pick up and do, but at the same time, once you learn the basics, most of the other stuff comes quicker.

To be able to do the crazy sweep picking and other highly technical things often heard in solos, that takes time to adapt to.

Another problem is that you will eventually outgrow your beginner equipment and will need to upgrade to more expensive and higher quality equipment to continue improving your technique and sound, and that can take time to build the money.

But if you're serious, it's quite fun to learn and it will come quickly, you just can't be frustrated if it's been a month and you're still learning Seven Nation Army.

  4. You can learn the basics of playing the guitar in about a YEAR if you practice at least an hour a day, every day... but I have been playing guitar professionally for over 50 years and I STILL don't consider that I have mastered the guitar because I STILL learn something every time I play one.

  5. Years and years of practice. Even the best guitarists can find ways to improve. You just have to be dedicated. : )
