The email account was deleted a week ago. We contacted the vendor 4 days later but there really hasn't been any movement. Just wondering if this is a typical scenario.

  1. depends on a few different things really, how long ago it was deleted, how big the mail box was, how the company backs it up etc. the bigger the mailbox the longer it takes, the further back it was the longer it might take to find it/ if they still have it.

There are loads of factors really, if it just happened and you restoring from last nights backup i should think not more than an hour, 2 tops

  2. By default, Exchange Server has a default mailbox retention period of 30 days.  That means that if a mailbox is deleted, it can be restored during the retention period very easily (in your case it would probably take less than 10 minutes).  Now it's possible that they have set the retention period to something less than 30 days, but it would be pretty dumb to go less than a week.

Even if they had to go to backup, it would only take a couple of hours at worst to restore.
