I started running three weeks ago. I've been using the treadmil about every day going 2-3 miles a day. I will start out by walking for 5 minutes gradually speeding up from 2.5mph to 3.5mph. After 5 minutes I will speed up to 5mph and be running slowly. I can run without stopping for about 2 minutes. I have no problem with breathing. My problem is my lower legs. Just below my knee and my ankles are what is bothering me. I wouldn't say I have shin splints because it doesn't hurt that bad in that area. Sure they do feel slightly sore after running, but it's minor. Anyway, after 2 minutes I have to slow down again to 3.5mph. After 2-3 minutes I can speed it up again. Each time I speed up, I go a little faster. Eventually, I will have the speed up to 7mph and can run at this speed for atleast 0.20 miles. Then I slow it down and walk it off, then stop. My average pace is about 15 min per mile. I want to do more and go further, but my lower legs need more strength.

  1. It is very hard to say, as it will vary so much from person to person, it depends very much on your genetic 'fitness' etc

  2. It's because you are running on the treadmill so much. Try to get out and run on some trails or grass somewhere. If not then ice your legs where it hurts for 10 to 15 minutes after running and that should help.
