How long does it take to tame a rabbit?

i have two rabbits and we have had them now for nearly 3 months and they are both girls. Since we have had them i think we have handled them nearly every day apart from once or twice and we don't seem to have gotten anywhere with them, they still runaway from us etc.

so i need to know how long it does take to fully tame a rabbit so that they don't runaway from us when we try to stroke or pick them up.

am i just being impatient?

or should they be tame by now?

please help!?!?!?!?!

  1. maybe you could try letting them out and siting near by, and just let them come to you in their own leisure- maybe with some bits of carrot and apple to entice them over!!

try doing this every day and slowly begin to stroke them when they take they food.  its very very common for bunny's to hate being picked up, so you probably wont have much success in this area, if you want them to go somewhere (like back in their cage) just shoo them in the right direction, rather than trying to catch and pick them up as this will only scare them and damage any progress you've made.

    good luck!

  2. Maybe they don't like to be picked up, and they run away because they associate you with that.  Rabbits are prey animals and like to have all four feet on the ground at all times.  Sit with them and let them come to you and check you out, don't approach them, let them decide when the interactions will take place. I think you will find that with time they will be running to you for to get pats and attention.

  3. if they're unspayed females they will be harder to tame. just keep stroking them daily. go slow to them, let them sniff you, if they get rude and swat at you, lightly hold their ears down and say no calmly but firmly. some rabbits never like to be picked up, well most don't, and you may have to come to terms with that but they should get tame enough to not run away from you. spaying should be done though. all bunnies that aren't in care of breeders should be altered. for temperament and more importantly the bunny's health.
