  3. 8 to 10 hours is correct.  If you are thinking of visiting, there is another way to see the canal that requires less of you day bound to a boat.  There's a train the runs along side the canal all the way into Colon with only one brief stop in between in a small place called Frijole.  Depending on the season you may have to travel one direction in the morning and return in the evening.  But at least at the other end you'll get to explore Colon.

  4. about 6 to 10 hours....it's 48 miles long...  must go slow.  locks hold up your progress a bit of course...
