  1. If you have the luxury, don't spend less than 2 full days, 3-4 if you can.  There is a lot to see, and the road/walkway system is like a maze.  There is so much to see, and it's so beautiful and interesting, give yourself lots of time so you're not rushed.  I did it in a day the first time, and it was way too little.  Two days is pushing it.  If it is best case scenario, I would take at least 3-4 days.  Venice is a strolling city, not a "how quickly can I see it all" city.  You will want to sit in the piazzas and watch the artists, maybe have a portrait done (they are cheap, and what a nice souveneir), have a nice dinner out, have a Bellini while you listen to the bands play in the square at night (and the many street musicians), etc.  If you can, book a night boat trip on the Grand Canal -- it's nice by day, but at night you can see into all the big pallazos along the Canal  - the windows are open and lights on - and see how the "other half" lives!  Don't rush it, you'll regret it!

  2. About 2 days if u want to see everything. Venice is not big, but its dotted with all kinds of small and interesting churches and museums.

  3. I was there for 2 full days and saw quite a bit.  You can also take the boats ("bus" boats) which give you great views and can save you time.  Some of the back streets are not overly nice (ie dark and narrow), but around the main areas its fine.

  4. You cannot walk around Venice in the literal sense.  Venice is filled with canals.  Gondolas and motorboats called water taxis take you to main stations , like little waterfront villages and you can browse.  However, to get to some of the other water villages you have to go by gondolas or water taxis.  For example, if you want to visit the Morano Glass factory, the best thing is to call them a day in advance and let them know where you are staying.  They will send a limousine for you.  By  the way, the limousine consists of a special highly varnished speed boat with velvet seats--very neat.

  5. if you dont take your time to look around and enjoy the beauty, you could get through it in a few hours. but why would you want to do that? i agree with the people above...you need a good day or two to really take in everything.

  6. At least a half a day without stopping to long.

A day and half stopping along the way and really sight seeing
