I have horrible allergies when trees grow their leaves in spring, I was wondering how long the process takes. I live in Pennsylvania, so the most common trees are oaks and maples.

  1. The time leaves need to grow to full size depends on sunshine duration and age of tree.

The young ones grow more quickly and the warmth of sunshine also speeds up.

One can say oak-leaves need 3-4,5 and maple-leaves 2,5-3,5 weeks to grow to full size.

But I never heard, that growing leaves cause allergies. It`s more presumable, that your allergy comes from pollen; they ripen nearly at the same time like leaves and are often distributed by wind.

On this site you find a chapter: Tree Pollen Allergy

In Internet you find local and daily actualized pollen calenders with information about the sort of pollen in the air.

The best might be you ask your doctor to check the source of the allergy and to find a therapy.
