How long does it take wild finches to find a new thistle feeder?

  1. When I placed a yellow colored finch feeder a few years ago, it took about three weeks. Then they came regularly. But this is perplexing....We had an ice storm last winter and I haven't seen them since. Coincidence?

    By the way, I encourage you to plant some mammoth sunflowers. The finches would climb all over them, pulling out all of the tiny florets on the sunflower head. It was really fun to watch.


  2. If you've fed them before or have seen them around your house, I'm sure it won't longer than a day or three at the most. Once one finds it, word will get around where food can be found easily.

    I still waiting for the first humming bird and I've had that feeder up for a week now.

  3. I put out a Niger seed feeder with a bright yellow top and bottom and had gold finches at the feeder within hours of placement,if they are around they will come
