If you want to teach at a 4-year college or university, you'll need a PhD.  That's 8 - 12 years of college, depending on what subject you want to teach.

If you want to teach at a 2-year college, you can probably get by with just a masters degree - that's 6 years of college.

Well, MINIMALLY 4 year. At a 4 year college, you'll need that lovely MASTER's and you better be thinking about the PH.D.

8 years would be my idea. then you need some teaching experience. YOu aren't going to be hired at a college if you have no experience and are GREEN.

8 years education. 5 years of quality teaching. Some "kudos" from somewhere (IE accomplishments, papers, etc)
