I took my kid to a giant cub sleep over withh hundreds of other kids and he was the last one to get to sleep!

I just wondered what was a normal 'falling to sleep time' for kids after you've tucked them in and turned off the lights.

  1. He was probably just excited about the trip and coudnt stop thinking about it

  2. Well, he won't be staying in the covers as your body tempeture raises while you sleep. I'm 13, and it takes me about two hours. If he wakes up at 7am, you may want to try putting him to bed a little later. I know if I try rest too early it just takes me longer, the same goes for those in my family, and most of my friends.

  3. My 8yr. old  takes about an hour to fall asleep. but  my 7yr. old falls asleep between 10-20min.

  4. It usually takes about 7-10 minutes for me to sleep every night. I think it was just a sleep over than.

  5. I am  older than your ages (14) and it takes me at least 30 minutes too an hour on school nights.....on weekends I go to sleep within 10 minutes usually

  6. It depends on your day. If you've been up, running around, and excited still before you go to bed, you're not going to be settled down. I think this was your son's case. Also, if you don't get enough physical activity during the day, you may not be tired to fall asleep right away. And, if you got a lot of sleep the previous night, you're most likely not going to be tired to sleep the next night at an early time. This is really nothing to worry about. It sometimes takes me an hour to fall asleep. And yes, sometimes I get frustrated b/c it's so late and I still can't sleep, but there are some things you can do to help yourself fall asleep. For some, you just have to stay relaxed. Not drinking soda right before bed is a good thing. You want to avoid caffeine. Also, the classic "counting sheeps" works for some. Maybe soft background music would help. Hope I helped a little. :)

  7. sometimes my son has trouble falling asleep...he's 9 and prone to worrying and anxiety....as a general rule no caffeine after lunch time and some sort of physical activity during the day helps him feel sleepy at bedtime.  I also read that shower or baths an hour beforehand helps physically....heating and cooling off of the body makes one sleepy.

Your going to make your kid really worry about falling asleep, so take the pressure off of falling asleep and tell him to just relax and get comfortable and focus on resting, not sleeping.

I think sometimes because my son is so thoughtful he picks up on a lot of my worries and that's why his anxiety level seems inappropriate for a child his age.  I try to really watch what I say now and how I handle things.....

    Good Luck.

  8. Well if there were hundreds of other kids he was probably pretty wound up and excited so you could hardly classify this as a normal situation.  With my son we have 1/2 hr reading time together (helps him relax and wind down) and then after lights are out he's usually asleep within 15 minutes.
