How long does it usually take for Navy medical records to be available after discharge?

I have been out for a year now and the ship still has not sent my records to NPC. I need them so I can get my flight physical. On a side note: There was a chief who had a grudge with me and has alot of very high connections on the ship. He said to me before I left that he will still have control over me, is it possible that he is holding the records?

  1. WHAT!!!??? You were suppose to get those on the day of your discharge!!!!

If that Chief is holding your records or failed to have them given to you on your discharge he can get in a lot of trouble. Take note of his name and get a rep from a veterans group ot help you. Like the DAV, VFW or American Legion. They are the middle ground and know what to do.

You need to contact the VA and fight to get those. You not getting them right away is wrong!!

    Good luck

  2. I hate to say this, but if you didn't get copies of those before you were discharged you're SOL.  I personally had a copy of my records made months before I got out.  All you can really do now I guess is keep waiting, or just give up on them.

  3. Only IF he is and IF you can prove it. Use your chain of command, that what they are there for. You should have been giving copies of your med records before your ETS. You could try a veterans service group (DAV, VWF, etc), or the VA

I just thought of something else. Try the National Archives.

  4. You could have obtained copies of any and

all of your Medical records before Discharge...

No matter what any Officer or dip Sh*t Lifer says...

    Sh*t rolls down hill...

    Call your Congress person asap...

    The Military hates Congressional inquires

and the person that caused the problem.

If he still has the records he will be in deep do do...

  5. Oh   i'm  sorry    I   can't  remember

  6. During your outprocessing, you should have been told to request a full copy of your military health records for just this reason.  What a lot of military don't realize is their health records (and those of dependents if seen in military health facilities) are actually property of the US Government and not the individual.  Once you get out, it can take a small miracle to get them to release them for any reason.  My suggestion would be to contact the records center directly at the installation holding the records.  I would also contact that hospital commander.  Be sure to keep documentation of every contact, person you speak with and request you make.  If that fails, than it may be time to contact your congressman.
