I went to an interview with a fortune 500 company about a week ago. I talked to 5 people and stayed for almost 3 hours. I think it went pretty well. 5 days after the HR called and told me that the hiring manager wants to offer me the job (a verbal offering). They will be conducting a background check. That was happened on this Tuesday. Today is Thursday. Should this be taking longer than 2 days after a verbal offering has been made? Or how long does it usually take for background check in my case? Why would they give me a verbal offer BEFORE asking me to provide my current pay stub and background check?

  1. The offered first because the background check is expensive.

It can take a couple of weeks, it will depend on how easy it is to verify your resume.

  2. It really depends on where you are getting a job at.  Normally it takes 2 - 3 weeks or if its a real highly known company it can take up to 5 weeks.  Some jobs may only take 1 - 2 weeks though so you never know.  Just be patient and apply for a few other jobs in case it does not check out or they just dont look into it.
