My in laws have smoked in their home for decades and decades. Against my better judgement, I took my children over there. When my middle daughter was 18 mos she got RSV that was made WAY worse due to her exposure to 2nd hand smoke at their house. This was 2 years ago this Christmas. My MIL has said that my FIL is now smoking outside more. I don't want to ever bring my kids over there again! We haven't since the hospitalization. My question - am I overreacting like they believe or would you avoid it too? My parents live less than 2 miles away and when we go visit they are more than welcome at my parents house. We also try to meet them other places but my FIL is clearly upset and doesn't come around. I want the kids to see their grandparents but not at the risk of their health. We also have another daughter now who is almost 1 and the other two are 5 and 3. It seems silly to me to risk it but I'd like to hear other opinions - like if they do stop smoking in the house, would that make it okay? The house is almost 100 years old, the carpet is over 20 years old and there is a window heat/ac unit. not very good ventilation.
Thanks.
