I'm supposed to be getting a Boxer tomorrow from my in-laws and the dog was sprayed by a skunk late last night. How long does the smell last and should I just wait since I'll be keeping this as an inside dog?

  1. A while

  2. Get two bottles of hydrogen peroxide and

    put it in a bucket

add a half cup of baking soda and a squirt of liquid dish soap

    It will foam up alot

Sponge it on the dog and let sit for 10-15 minutes the longer the better.

Then rinse well with plain water.

This will take most of the smell off the dog.

It works way better than tomato based stuff.

My dogs get skunked about once per year and this is good enough that they sleep in the house the same night.

  3. a long time my friend. Bathe it in tomato and tomato juice. It really helps

  4. Depends, if the boxer just got the spray on its fur, the peroxide/ baking soda combination will work; however, avoid the eyes with the solution because it can be harmful to the dogs eyes. Peroxide has a bleaching affect so the fur may be bleached a lighter color. A product called odorxit will remove the odor without the side effects. If the dog was close enough to get a nose full of skunk spray, it will have skunk breath for up to a month due to the oily odor being stuck to the inside of the nasal cavity. If this occurs, there is nothing you can do but wait. If a dog was sprayed once, chances are it will do it again....The smell of dog ownership! ;)
