  1. I canot speak for the Navy but essentially all branches have a place where you may apply for a correction of records.

I do not want to rain on your parade BUT, the way the process was explained to me (besides the fact that no one knows what the case loads are that they are working nor how long the procedure takes) was the fact that the way the Board of Corrections works is that they only have the ability to correct a mistake that was made on your records or to correct an injustice done to you where they can see an obvious error.  The entry level discharges came about in the late 70's early 80's.  They were done to relieve the paperwork and tedious   processing procedures in effect at that time to discharge an individual from military service.  In the Army the procedures required to discharge an individual could take months and it had an impact on the morale of others who  came in contact with the individual while they awaited discharge.  The entry level discharge could be done in as quick as three days once the soldier said they wanted out.  The individual was given a General Discharge (no loss of benefits that they might be entitled to vs. the Honorable Discharge)  The RE code is a code used to determine reenlistment eligibility.  The RE 4 means you are not eligible to come back into the service for (used to be 2 years) a period of time and if you did it would require a waiver that was not usually granted.  The board of corrections could not and would not change a RE code unless it was given in error.  By accepting your discharge they should have counseled you about this.  I remember soldiers being told that after 6 months they could apply to have the General Discharge upgraded but I never saw it happen.  I have seen documentation sent to prior service personnel stating that their RE Code could not be changed because it was the soldiers Commander's evaluation of the ability of that individual to return to and perform miitary service  The CO  was saying I don't want you to come back in and be in a fox hole next to them.  I retired 11 years ago so things might have changed.  Good Luck

  2. Once you become a file on some guy's desk, who knows how long it could take.  Just keep pestering them and stay on it and best of luck.

  3. no one can say for certain, you are just a file in a stack so it will take some time. It could take from a couple of days to a couple of weeks to a few months. Just hang in tight and good luck.
