There is no maximum limit. The hybrid batteries are designed to last the lifetime of the car. They're under warranty in California for 10 years or 150,000 miles, but no Prius (the hybrid which has been out the longest) has had to replace batteries due to old age yet. Some Priuses used as taxis have over 200,000 miles on the original batteries.

as with any battery  there is degradation on the plates...i'd expect 10 years or more...some batteries last longer than others...
