How long does the pain in heel last from a cortisone shot?

I just received a shot to the side of my heel for heel spurs. The Dr. was pretty good he sprayed something cool and then gave me the shot. It wasn't the shot that I felt but soon after I felt the medicine. At first it was a little warm not to bad but then later It felt as though my foot weighed a ton and then the pain was worst then the heel spur. I had to go home and put my leg up because my toes felt warm and tight. Is this normal? If so about how long should this last? I would appreciate all feedback...... Thanks

  1. I'm not sure about the shot but when we went to disney land sure enough are heels started hurting. we didn't know what to do my child got mad and squeezed his ankle. strangely he said it felt better when you squeeze your ankle. i tried and it worked. I'm not sure if this is the pain your having but try it a little and c if it works.

  2. ~ Hi ~ I have had cortisone injections in my lumbar spine and the shot did initially hurt, however I didn't notice any lingering pain in the area. However, interestingly enough I did notice tightening of the muscles. Which may be similar to what your experiencing only in your foot area. I would definitely try an keep your foot up and relax. I did find this list of side effects and it does increased pain for about 24-48 hours. So, I think what you're experiencing is OK:

If you are still experiencing problems tomorrow, maybe contact the Doctor that you gave you the injection with your symptoms

    I hope your symptoms clear-up quickly! =)
