  1. I have a westie....he is only 5 months old, but their life expectancy is between 15 and 20 years (which is extremely long for most dogs, especially small breeds.)

we live in the city, and we walk him every day at LEAST four times a day.  He gets in a lot of exercise this way, and then we encourage him racing around and playing fetch with his little ball in our kitchen.  He's small enough that it doesnt cause any damage!

Westies like the outdoors, but they are also perfectly happy cuddling on the couch.  my westie in particular loves to sleep on the couch :)  they are known for liking to dig (although i havent noticed this with ours because we dont have a yard to let him dig in)  and they are also known for liking the snow.

my westie loves the car.  we take him everywhere with us.  when he gets in the car, he spreads out across our laps and chills.  he never shows any signs of discontent--and we are extremely happy about this!

something else to consider:  westies are known for not being that great with children--although i have not noticed this AT ALL with ours.  in fact, he is very tolerable of my two nieces (ages 2 and 5)

there are tons of books and websites with westie info.  a basic internet search will provide you with tons of info!

    good luck

  2. The breed can live for 15+ years as for the other question it depends on the individual dog

  3. My mother-in-laws Westie lived to 16 1/2. Up north she loved being outside, but they moved to FL, and she was happy staying in the house. She loved to ride.

  4. depends on their owners if they care for them (long time 15 years maybe) if the owners don't take care of them ( not very long)
