  1. Are you uploading from the camcorder to the PC or from the PC to a web site?  If you're going from camcorder to PC, that's very slow - what sort of camcorder is it and how are you trying to capture the video?

  2. Assuming a digital tape camcorder. then the upload would be 1:1 ie however long the footage is, also assuming a non or lightly compressed video format.

What program and interface are you using?

Actually It can't take any longer than it takes for the recorded media to run its length, so if yours is taking an hour its possible your camera has stopped.

  3. It depends what format the video is in and how compressed it is.

20 minutes of video in a highly compressed file could be a couple  dozen meg and that would take a few minutes.

20 minutes of video in lightly compressed HDV would be a couple dozen gig and that could take a long time...

In either case, it also depends on the speed of your internet connection. Dial-up, low-end DSL, wireless broadband, high speed DSL and high speed cable will transport the data at different speeds.

The speed of the computer's CPU has very little to do with file transfer speed in comparison to the video file size and connection speed.

  4. It depends on your computer.

What is the processor speed? amount of memory you have and size and speed of the hardisk?

Are you using USB 2.0, Firewire 400 or Firewire 800 connections?

The difference is USB 2.0 speeds are up to 480Mbps where as  Firewire 400 and 800 are the maximum theoretical speeds the say the are respectively.

Also, the speed of which your camera can transfer data is a factor.

  5. It depends on your video capture program. The program I use Sony's DV Gate does it in real time> So 20 minutes would take 20 minutes on my VAIO.

  6. to put it on you pc if its mini dv then its real time, 20 mins 20 mins,  and about 10gb of good quality avi less with not so good mpeg, And about the same to put it back to tape if your camera supports it.

you dont say what the media is ie tape, mini dvd or hdd,
