  1. Birds don't get pregnant.  Your lovebirds are mating and he may or may not be depositing sperm but that's NOT a guarantee your hen will lay eggs any time soon.  Birds love to have s*x. Period.  However, if/when they do get ready to start laying eggs you'll see them working the nestbox if you've provided one and increase the frequency of their mating behaviors.  If you haven't provided a box for them they will start looking for a place to nest at the bottom of the cage or around your house if they have free flight.

If you don't want them to breed and they carry the sexual behavior to the reproductive level you may need to separate the pair or reduce the triggers (reduce daylight hours, access to baths and soft food, eliminate a few toys, move the cage around so they're out of their comfort zone for awhile).

As long as they all get along it's not necessary to separate the additional cage mates but watch for aggressive/protective behaviors if the pair that is mating decide to become territorial or want to reproduce.

  2. Hi,

Firstly lovebirds or any birds for that matter don't get pregnant, they just lay eggs. Normally with most birds they lay their eggs around eight days after mating.

  3. Do you want to have baby lovebirds?  It doesn't sound like you know much about birds, so it's probably better if you don't have them mate.  There are LOTS of unwanted parrots out there to adopt.  Please don't bring more into the world.
