Question:

How long for stitches to come out?

I did my wisdom teeth surgery last week (all 4) and apparently when my caretaker asked the for the stitches the nurse told her that it would come out automatically without a second appointment. Now I have a protruding piece of stitching in my gums and it is very bothersome. Does anybody know if i can just pull it out or at least give an estimate of the time it would take to come out "naturally".

  1. You should have a follow up appointment soon- if you can wait-let the dentist take it out.  If you absolutely can't stand it go in and have the dentist deal with it.  You don't want to cause any extra irritation because wisdom teeth take a little longer to heal.

  2. Depending on what kind of stitched they use.  If they use "Gut" stitches they should dissolve on their own cause they are made from the stomach lining of a pig.  The other kind the dentist would take out on their own and would have set up another appt to do that.
