I've heard mother land, or mother country, many times, but it seems homeland is quite a recent take.

Any refs earlier than the 1990's to this usage?

  1. Actually, other than "Homeland Security", this is the first time I have heard America refferred to as "Homeland"...  most people I have meat abroad, Americans and otherwise, refer to the U.S. as "the Sates" or "the U.S."...

  2. It came into usage after 9/11

  3. Wasn't the "Homeland" what the n***s were fighting for?  Wasn't hitlers comment that the germans deserved a safe and large Homeland?  Lets add a little "living room" and go take over Czechoslovakia.

I dont remember hearing it before the war on terror.

Do you ever wonder if its like Orwell's book "1984?"

  4. I don't remember hearing it in reference to the US prior to 911.

  5. I will never refer to America as the "homeland."

  6. 150-200 years, but they are not the real americans because they are europeans and asians of origin
