  1. The first two since 1898.  u.s.v.i. i think since 1917.

  2. PUERTO RICO & GUAM

Puerto Rico and Guam have only been considered US territories with the coming into force of the Treaty of Paris (Spanish American Peace Treaty).  That treaty came into force on April 11, 1899.

    VIRGIN ISLANDS

The transaction was finalized on January 17, 1917, when the United States and Denmark exchanged their respective treaty ratifications. The U.S. took possession of the islands on March 31, 1917 and the territory was renamed the Virgin Islands of the United States.

  3. Puerto Rico and Guam became a Territory during the Spanish and American war in July 25, 1898

The U.S. Virgin Islands became a possession on March 31, 1917 from the Danish.

If further info in needed tab to the country in the below web site.

  4. Since 1898, 110 years.

  5. PR: 25 July 1898

    Guam: 25 July 1898

    That's too long.

US Virign Islands: I do not know since when, check the other answers who provide more data.

  6. Since 1898, when U.S. troops took possession of Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, the Mariana Islands, Guam, Samoa, and I don`t remember anyone else. Under a Treaty of Paris, Spain ceded these islands to the United States to compensate the U.S. losses during the war, and the loss of the U.S. Ship Maine, which was suppossedly blown up by the Spaniards, which started the whole war. Cuba got independence in 1903, from the U.S. It`s ironic that millions of Cubans and children of Cubans, now have to live in Miami or the hundreds of other countries around the world, including Puerto Rico, where we have a great Cuban population. The Philippines got independence from the U.S. in 1921 I believe, although The U.S. kept an American military base on one of the islands for decades after that, before closing down the base. The Philippines fell under the Japanese during WW-2 and thousands of Americans died to liberate their population from the Japanese. Samoa is now known as American Samoa, The Mariana`s as The Territory of the U.S. Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico is still seen by many as a colony, I would love for it to become a state soon. Guam is a U.S. Territory. The Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, St. Croix,  and St. John were aquired by the United States in 2 different ways. St. John was ceded to the U.S. Natural Parks by John Rockerfeller, who owned the island for decades before, and the U.S. Congress approved a resolution to buy the other two islands, which was done and they bought the 2 remaining islands. I`m not to sure what year it was that the U.S. Department of Interior bought the islands, or if it was another government agency that bought them. Right now the three are known as the U.S. Virgin islands. By the way Puerto Rico is the only remaining colony of the U.S., since 1898 it has been in U.S. posesion. That`s 110 years.

  7. Funny question (well not really funny). After the Spanish-American War of 1898, Spain ceded Guam to the United States. From 1899 to 1949, the U.S. Navy administered Guam, except during the Japanese occupation from 1941–1944. Guam was liberated by American military forces in the summer of 1944. Guam's economy is based on tourism and U.S. military spending (U.S. naval and air force bases occupy one-third of the land on Guam). People of Guam for have been US citizens since 1950. Have only been represented in the US Congress since 1973, but are not allowed to have a vote in the the presidential elections.

Peurto Rico followed a similar fate and no doubt the virigin islands.
