  1. Since 1850 or so - they came as seamen and stayed.

well, I wasnt actually far off! lol

  2. 1850s sounds about right. They took over Pit Street. If you go down the hill from the Anglican Cathedral, passed the former Liverpool Institute (where Paul McCartney and George Harrison went to school) you'll come to Pit Street. According to my father, who also went to 'the Inny' (although he stopped boasting about it after the Beatles rose to fame) the Chinese painted their front doors yellow.

When my father heard that my future mother-in-law was expecting her 5th child, my father asked me, 'Doesn't she know that every 5th child born into the world is Chinese?'

A few weeks later they painted their front door yellow and my father said, 'Obviously she does.'

  3. there is always a Chinese community in every major city  around the world and is is from about the 1800s.

they have done all the jobs that no one else wanted to do and as a result have prospered and gained great inroads into totally adverse societies without sacrificing their integrity or culture.

No other race on earth can say that in my book!
