  1. The rugby league world cup has been running since 1954 where it was played in france. There have been twelve rugby league world cups including the first. Only two teams have won the cup Australia nine times and great britain three. The cup was contested between only three teams untill 1972 those being France, NZ, Great Britain and Australia scince then it has expanded somewhat and the last competition in 2000 featured sixteen teams. Since 1995  Great britain has had to compete as the four seperate nations that make up the U.K. Undermining their strength somewhat. And in the 2000 cup it was purely a contest between N.Z. and Australia. And that's the way it will probably be for ever  ( with the aussies as strong favourites) until any real top level test matches are played between anyone other than the big three (being N.Z. Aus, and G.B.). Hope that answers your question kiwi girl. If you want to watch a real world cup stick with union and the william webb ellis cup it's an older code with a younger cup and at least it's halfway competitive. (Go the A.B.s)Till you come up with another puzzler for my rugby brain, catch ya!

  2. This has to be the first one, because hardly any countries play league. The world loves Union!!!

I could tell you that the only teams with a chance of winning such an event would be Australia, New Zealand or England, and the rest would just make up the numbers...

  3. The first Rugby World Cup of either codes was held in 1984.  Between the top four nations Great Britain, Australia, France and New Zealand in a knock out series in which the best two teams would meet in the final.  Great Britain beat France 16 - 12.
