  1. That's a tricky one. Snow leopards are incredibly hard to study and hard to census as they live in places that are hard to get to, have huge home ranges and naturally live at a very low density.

    Snow leopards have been hunted for skins and killed by herdsmen reacting to attacks on livestock for a long time. The animals were probably in trouble before international effort really focused on them in the early 1990's. Since then the rate of loss has increased and numbers are still dropping. A disturbing recent development is that westerners living in Afghanistan may have provided a new market and made hunting these animals more attractive in that country.


  2. Snow Leopards were placed on the I.U.C.N.'s Red List as endangered in 1972.

  3. Its not very long time, few years back no one was thinking of it.  But in recent years bcoz of few conservation organizations and people working for wild life attracted everyone attention towards this animal.  

    Actually today all the big cats are facing danger of getting extinct in next few decades.  Hope this is not true.
