I've known him for 5 years.  We dated for about 6 months and broke up when he moved back to Texas in 04 but I knew him for a year before that.  We began talking and dating long distance two years later.  I dated him for a year long distance flying to Dallas once a month (or more).  We got engaged May 07 and I moved to Dallas July 07. We have been living together since July 07. We are getting married October 08.


  2. We got engaged after 7 months and married after 12 months, but we were in a hurry so that he could get his immigration status.  We've been married for four years now and still going strong.

    I believe you should know someone for about three years before you decide to get married.  It is really hard to know someone really well within a year.

  10. Well, my husband and I got married exactly four and a half years (and one day) from the day we first got together. Of course we lived together too so when we got married nothing changed for us except my last name.

    As far as engagement goes, we were engaged for about a year as we planned the wedding.

We knew each other 14 months before we got engaged but only lived in the same state for the last 4 months.  We were engaged for 3 months.  We have been married for 11 1/2 years.  When we first starting our long distance relationship I had just broken off an engagment to a guy I had dated for 5 years.  So my husband was a rebound guy.

    I also say that if my friend/daughter/etc did what we did I would say that they were crazy and moving too fast.  But it is working out for us.

  13. Well it was a bit complicated for me as we were doing long distance across two countries.  I had two proper proposals.  We'd already discussed if we though we had a future together early into doing the long distance thing, and who would move to a foreign country.

    The first one was after 6 months and was in english.  I told him yes but I don't want to get engaged right now,(or move to a foreign country).

    The second proposal was after 11 months and was in his language.  I said yes that one.  We looked at rings after 12-13 months.  I didn't want to wear the ring until we were living together so didn't wear the ring until we'd been together for 16 months.  

    We want to live together for 6 months before we set a date for the wedding so will have been with each other for 2 years before we set a date for the wedding.  We'll probably get married before our 3 years anniversary.

    Personally I think it's all about what feels right for you.  I knew within 2 months I wanted to marry my fiance. I was with one of my ex's for 3 years and knew it never wanted to marry him.  If it feels right it probably is right.

  18. Known each other as friends for 10, got together nearly two year sago (finally!) proposed to me in may after a year and a half together hoping to get married next september

  19. My husband and I knew each other for three years before we started dating.  We dated for 20 months before he proposed and were married 17 months after that.  We've been married a little over two months and have been together for over three years now.

  25. Honestly I think the answer you are looking for will not help, it's what and when it feels right. I know people that have gotten married after 8 weeks of knowing each other and I know couples that dated for 5 years before they got married, it's matter of what works for you

  28. Well, we were friends for three years before we started dating. We dated 2 years before we got engaged and then were engaged for 2 years before we got married last year.
