i'd book it 6months advance, you get great deals on airfare, hotel charges, etc if you book it in advance...

about three months, worst booking was one week... almost didn't get a room... it was a hassle.

My main holiday I usually book about 8 months in advance usually in January for September - giving us a good while to save up for paying it off and spends.

City breaks usually a couple of months before.
