How long in average does it take for stock orders to be executed?

how long does it take in average to execute a trade? Will I get it at the price when I execute the trade?

  1. This depends on the exchange, stock, volume in the stock, type of order, etc.  But for an average market order on the 2 main NY markets, the NYSE average is 6.3536 and the Nasdaq average is 6.8370.  Check out the article sourced for a few other averages as well.


  2. It depends on what market you're using, the quantity you're trading and any price qualifiers you use.  Larger firms have better routing systems, or quicker accesses to the floors. There is no such thing as on average,

    A market order under 500 shares entered on any major exchanges usually takes less than 10 seconds, and OTC order may take a little longer, but less than 30 seconds

    Limit orders and orders in excess of 500 shares usually will take longer but less than 30 seconds, OTC orders may take longer.

  3. Because of the speed of electronic trading, any market order in a liquid stock for 100 shares or less will execute in under a second.
