How long is a assault sentence?

I writing a story where a character assaults a police officer... how long does a typical jail sentence last for that charge?

depends on the assault, if the victim presses cahrges, if the persons been in trouble before but he'd probably just get a program....

Assaulting a police officer is a felony, which has a minimum sentence of a "year and a day".  Depending on harm inflicted, from 1-40 years.
