This is such a perplexing question.   Actually, to be exact, a common 3 foot black snake is actually 37.45 inches long.   However, if you look at the black addler, it is only 35.38 inches long.  The reason for this is due to when it sheds its skin.   3 feet would of course be a common misconception, since they are continually growing.
