How long is acceptable to wait for a start date for a new job?

I got offered a new job through an agency and between the agency and the company i will be working for they still havent got me a start date - is this acceptable? Should I go direct to the company as opposed to dealing with the agency?

A week...if they don't inform you of a start date then ask the agency, if they don't know then I would go directly to the company.  This shows initiative & how much do you want the job.

this is in regard to your florida question about nice safe places to move.

i currently live in naples, florida and not only is the eather gorgeous, the people friendly and everything cheap but it has the  lowest crime rating in america.

it truely is a beautiful place where the people wave at u as u drive past and quite quiet with not alot of traffic.

i urge u to seriously consider it
