Question:

How long is brewed coffee drinkable?

My mom has a habit of brewing a pot of coffee at night to just sit in the pot overnight so it is sitting there ready to drink the next day. She just microwaves the first cup of the day and then turns on the pot to heat the rest of it for the day. I can't understand how this can taste remotely good but she seems to like it. I keep telling her that she must be running some risk of making herself sick by some sort of bacteria or something forming on the coffee that is just sitting out in an open pot all night long. There are even times she will let it sit in the pot for 2 nights and still heat it up and drink it. I can't find any specific information of what this is actually doing to the coffee other than making it taste disgusting. Does anyone know any factual information that I can tell my mother to convince her to stop doing this??? It really grosses me out but at least I don't drink any unneccessary caffeine when I'm there!! : )

  1. It won't make anyone sick.

    It deepens the flavor.

    I like doing that too.

Live and let live... why do you want to ruin something that she likes to do? She's not bothering you with it.

  2. tell your mother that she should at lease put it in the fridge

if that doesn't work then you do the same thing but what u should do is put it our for one week and don;t drink it show your mother what can happen over a long period of time and that should gross her out and explain to her that each day their is more and more of this bacteria growing.. over the first - second day you can't see anything but their is bacteria  is growing in it.

  3. After like 2 hours its kinda gross. My mom does the same type of stuff she would prolly drink 3 day old coffee.

  4. Caffeine in plants and beans is an insect poison.  Perhaps that is why the bugs stay away.  I french press my coffee for a minimum of ten minutes with 140 F/60C hot water.  Makes low acid, full flavor coffee.

  5. after one hour it tastes burnt and yucky.

  6. You can keep drinking it as long as you can tolerate the taste...put it in the fridge between drinking...
