I mean complete body cellular regeneration. How long does it take to replace every cell in the human body in terms of time?

  1. It all depends what kind of cell. The "life cycle" of a red blood cell is 210 days before it is recycled. Skin cells start to grow back immediately as soon as collagen fibers are laid down over a wound. But damaged heart, liver, or nerve cells may never regenerate after they have been damaged.

  2. This is a very interesting question... I don't think you can get an exact answer. There is a lot involved as you can imagine.

There are many different cell types in the human body. Some cells are replaced by new cells faster than some other cell types.

Think about the reproductive cells (sperm & ovum)... While women are born having the entire deck of ovum in their ovaries which release ovum at certain time periods, sperm are made new on a daily basis.

Also, try to remember when you got a cut in your skin? do you remember? how long did it take to heal? now, there can be various things that may affect the length of healing or (cell replacing) in a wound, but it should give you some idea of how long it takes for epidermal skin cells to replace itself.

Also, think about how pregnancy works... you have two cells come together (sperm & ovum) which through the process called Meiosis (cell dividing and dividing again!) it forms into a baby which hatches about 9 months later.

Even IF a scientist could work out your genome structure and could tell you how long it would take for your cells to replace every single cell... what about the next person? we are all completely different, that's because we are made by an amazing God.

  3. yeah, but basically the cell cycle itself is about 18hrs.(excludine those pesky germ cells) Therefore thats how long it takes for each cell to produce two new cells. When you get to things ilke tissue regenerations and baby regeneration then you get into the more difficult iffy answers like the guy above me.
