Question:

How long is completely thawed chicken good for in the fridge?

I took out a whole chicken to thaw in cold water yesterday (Sunday), originally planning on cooking it tonight, but something came up.

Do you think it would still be okay Thursday, or is that pushing it?

  1. Since it has already been frozen and thawed....I would cook it no later than tomorrow.  Otherwise, you just may be asking for trouble.

  2. Never put something back in the freezer that has been thawed unless you cook it first.

The rule is no more than 3 days so Thurs, would be really pushing it since you took it out Sun..Even with the 3 day rule, always check for odor and feel if it has become slimy to the touch.

  3. put it back in the freezer and take it out on Tuesday. Marinade it or something on Wednesday and than do your due (cook it)

  4. if the sell by date is thursday or later then keep in fridge until then

if it goes bad before then cook it today and then use chicken meat another day

  5. Lol, situation like this, you can always marinade the meat (any flesh that were thawed) and put back into the freezer. Any seasoning salt or regular salt you can use. You can use spice or herbs as well. Then freeze it and thaw again even a week later. The meat will not rot. But make sure you cook the meat 2nd time you thaw. Also check the best before date. Make sure that meat is not close to expiry date.

  6. I never cooked chicken after its completely thawed in the frig after 72 hours, don't take chances with poultry

  7. Depends does it smell? what is the temp in the fridge?  I would cook it and then store it in the fridge till Thursday...with Salmonella going around you don't want to take any chances.

  8. That's pushing it.  Raw foods - depending on the type - should be cooked within 3 days.  Fish - in two.
