  1. that number hasn't been invented yet, so we just say 5 billion light years

  2. Gotta figure, a light year is about 5.8 *trillion* miles, so....

    5,000,000,000 X 5,800,000,000,00 = 29,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles...

  3. 5 x 10^9 x 186000 x 3600 x 24 x 365.24 = 2.93 x 10^22 miles

  4. Thank you Geoff.  Great answer.

  5. 29.392 sextillion miles.

Here is how you find it. Since astronomy uses metric system, you should first convert kilometers (9.4605e12 into miles). You’ll get 5.8785e12 miles. Then you multiply the value by 5 billion miles:

    5.8785e12 x 5e9 = 2.9392e22 miles. Which is 29.392 sextillion, in English.

  6. A meaninglessly large number. The whole reason for using large units like light years in astronomy is to yield numbers which people can understand. Converting them to tiny Earth units only makes astronomy incomprehensible.

  7. 2.939312687e+22 miles.
