For as long as it lasts or until the only thing it is good for is as a toothpick

Make sure you clean(scrub) it good with mild soap and water, with a thorough hot rinse, after using it to chop onions, and other vegetables.  I use the same board when cutting meat but use a mixture of bleach and soap, also with a thorough hot water rinse.  Be sure to wipe up as much water with paper towels after the rinse. This will prevent warping.

as long as it is sealed and kept clean , but once you see a little seperation in the wood you are not suppose to use it ,do to bacteria buildup

As long as you keep it in shape and clean it can be useful for a long time.  BUT, don't cut meat on it unless that is all you use it for.  Cutting different foods on it can spread germs from one food to another.  And if you cook one and leave the other raw you could be looking at illness.  Have one board for meat and one other for other things like bread cheese and vegetables.

I know of a wood butchers table that is over 100 years old
