How long is it supposed to take to uninstall Norton?

So, how long is it supposed to take to uninstall Norton 360? I just got a new laptop with Vista and I'm trying to get rid of it. I downloaded the uninstaller from their website and started the process to remove it. But now it seems to be frozen. It stops at "Removing Registry Values" and seems to be frozen. I've been waiting about 45 minutes now and it is still stuck at removing the registry values.

What's wrong? Is it supposed to take this long? Should I just cancel the process and start over? Ah, please help me.

  1. If you use the RUN NAV tool, it should take no more than five minutes. I have never had it freeze up on me,

  2. I am a registered beta tester and have tested most antivirus, antispyware and software that is not available to the general public.

Nortons, Symantec, is the parent company.   English is not my primary language.  I will do my best to guide you through the deletion of Nortons & Symantec as they are both in your system and Nortons is designed not to be removed by the normal add/removal tool or by Nortons removal tool.

My advise is to cancel the process and follow these instructions.  Becasue even if you were to remove Nortons & Symantec, you are still going to be left with overe 375 fragments of both glued to your registry, files, folders and sub system.  And this is going to cause you serious conflict when you try to install another antivirus.

Download this software, deletedr 2.1 from this link.

    çhttp://www.download3k.com/Delete-Doctor/...

When you download deletedr 2.1 save instead of run save to your documents.  When you open in your documents, transfer the file to your desktop.   Then run the file from your desktop.

When the file open you are going to see BROWSE, click on BROWSE  and when it open, look for (program files) and open.  You should see Nortons and Symantec.   Click on Nortons and open, and you will see the file go onto deletedr.   When you see this, you should then pick delete the file after you have reboot your PC.  As their are many options to delete the file.  This is the best one.   Reboot and then go to your tray and open start, open run and type in: c://program files, and double click on browse, when open click on program files and then look for Nortons and delete if it is not already deleted.  Go back to deletedr 2.1 an do the same for Symantec.  Follow the same procedure.

    We are not finished yet.

Now go to your tray again and open start, open seach and type in Nortons and let your pc scan for all files related to Nortons.  When they show on your monitor, delete from the bottom up.  If any say write protected or being used by another file, reboot and go back and do the same again as usually the file will delete this time.

Now do the same procedure, by typing in Symantec and let your pc search.  Delete from the bottom up.

    We are still not finished.

Go to your tray, open start, open run and type in regedit, and click on OK.  I HOPE THAT YOU ARE AND EXPERT IN COMPUTERS BECAUSE MY ADVISE TO YOU IS IF YOU ARE NOT THEN YOU ARE TAKING A SERIOUS CHANCE BECAUSE NOW YOU ARE GOING TO DELETE ALL THE REGISTRY KEYS RELATED TO NORTONS AND SYMANTEC THAT HAVE NO VALUE.  EVEN IF THEY HAVE VALUE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ONLY DELETE KEYS THAT SAY NORTONS AND SYMANTEC, OR YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF HAVING TO REINSTALL AND REFORMAT YOUR ENTIRE SYSTEM.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO GET THEIR GARBAGE OUT OF MY SYSTEM.

WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK.

  3. How long is it supposed to take to uninstall Norton? if you want to Uninstall Norton please Use This Revo uninstall Download here http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Revo Uninstaller helps you to uninstall and remove unwanted programs installed on your computer even if you have problems uninstalling and cannot uninstall them from "Windows Add or Remove Programs" control panel applet.

Revo Uninstaller is a much faster and more powerful alternative to "Windows Add or Remove Programs" applet!

With its advanced and fast algorithm, Revo Uninstaller analyzes an application's data before uninstall and scans after you uninstall an application. After the program's regular uninstaller runs, you can remove additional unnecessary files, folders and registry keys that are usually left over on your computer. Even if you have a broken installation, Revo Uninstaller scans for an application's data on your hard disk drives and in the Windows registry and shows all found files, folders and registry keys so you can delete them.

With its unique "Hunter mode", Revo Uninstaller offers you some simple, easy to use, but effective and powerful approaches to manage (uninstall, stop, delete, disable from auto starting) and to get information about your installed and/or running programs. Please Try it then let me know thanks.

  4. well, from few minutes to never (my experience has always been never, i finally got tired of it and had been staying away from norton since).  even if the progress bar shows it is uninstalled, no it is not 100%.  you can try to use this Norton Uninstall Tool (Not the same one that installs with the norton programs):

    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsg...

  5. From the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, it should take just a few minutes, and you don't need an uninstaller for that. You also need to uninstall Symantec.

This might help you in case it doesn't work from the Add/Remove Programs:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...

EDIT: Go to Computer, Local (C), Program Files, and see if Norton and/or Symantec folders are still there. If so, delete them. If you have Ccleaner, run it (the Registry option) and if there is any particle left it will remove it.

If you don't have Ccleaner, you can download it here:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

Also, go to Computer, Local (C), the on the search box, type Norton and then after the results come up, also try typing Symantec and see if there is anything left to delete. Make sure you know what you are deleting. If it is located in SwSetup folder, don't delete, because that's the folder where the pre-installed stuff are located in case you want to re-install them in the future.

  6. Why don't you uninstall it from Add and Remove Programs?
