Question:

How long is the average processing time for a spouse visa to the UK?

I am a US Citizen engaged to a UK Citizen. We had planned on applying for a fiance visa, having me move to England to live with him, and then marry within 6 months. However, we just found out they're changing the age eligibility requirements from 18 to 21 in December (we're both 19). So he will be flying here to marry me within the next few weeks. He starts school at the end of September, and I'd like to be there by then. Does anybody have experience with the process (no answers from the site please, I've read the site, I need actual know-how)? How long will it take? Can I go over there while it's still pending?

  1. Oh dear, then u missed the part that they are implementing the age restriction, no matter where you get married (they are saying that visas wont be granted until both spouses are 21, but I hope this rule doesn't get implemented). Anyway, the spouse visa cases entirely depend upon

    1) Visa officer.

    2) Documentation.

So I'd recommend it may be worth paying five or six hundred quid to a lawyer & have him prepare all the documentation required than doing it yourself (or done by ur BF).

I have seen, spouse visas been granted within two weeks & I also know cases where it was delayed for upto a year. But I am sure in your case it shouldn't be more than four weeks (He must have a job in UK & a place to live with you e.g. own property or rented/leased one).

You are US citizen, you have a visa waiver facility available, so while ur case is pending you can always visit him anytime (or vice versa).

So Congratulations in advance & wish u good luck.
